Prayagraj

Located in the Uttar Pradesh, Prayagraj, previously known as Allahabad, is a city of great spiritual importance in Hinduism. This city of offerings is known to be the meeting point of three river – The Ganga, the Yamuna, the Saraswati, together known as Triveni Sangam. Prayagraj boasts of its rich heritage and history and was even mentioned in the Mahabharata epic as Kaushambhi.

The city of Prayagraj is known to be Theertharaj because Lord Bramha performed Prakrishta Yajna at the confluence of Ganga, Yamuna & Saraswati rivers. Triveni Sangam is one of the major reasons for pilgrims visiting Prayagraj. The city also houses the Mughal era historical monument - Allahabad Fort which is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Anand Bhavan, Chandra Shekhar Azad Park, Allahabad Museum, Hanuman Temple is some of the other important sites to visit when in Prayagraj.

Prayagraj is also the place where the Maha Kumbh Mela is organized every 12 years and Ardh Kumbh Mela is organized every 6 years. The Kumbh Mela is regarded as the largest gathering of pilgrims worldwide. A large number of pilgrims gather here to bath in the Triveni Sangam to purify their souls from the sins committed. Many Sadhus and saints are also present here during this time. The whole city is fully lit up and decorated to celebrate this sacred occasion. Even the foreigners visit the fair to understand the meaning and importance of Hinduism.
