The rich tradition and culture of Nalanda was honored worldwide, thus making the town a global center of Buddhist learning. Nalanda has been associated with knowledge since the past and later in modern time got acclaimed as a Buddhist pilgrimage destination. The Archeological remains in the region showcase the monastic and scholastic history of Nalanda- the Buddhist Mahavihara.
Nalanda is adorned with the memories of Lord Buddha and his steps. The Nalanda University, now known as the Nalanda Ruins, is said to be the first residential university of the world. It has been declared as a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The Archaeological Museum of Nalanda, situated in front of the ruins, houses a vast collection of artifacts and relics giving an insight into the historical and cultural importance of the region.
